COLAGE Executive Director Jordan Wilson released the following statement in response to plans by opponents of LGBTQ+ families to shift public opinion against marriage equality:
“Another day, another attempt by queerphobes to undermine LGBTQ+ families. This time, they are appropriating the lives of the six million children currently growing up with LGBTQ+ parents (and so many more who are already adults) by cloaking their discrimination under the guise of “protecting” youth and silencing those of us whose lives directly contradict their claims. You can’t be “pro-family” while belittling the experiences of millions.
“In reality, the kids are well and truly alright and public opinion is firmly on the side of marriage equality. There is nothing wrong with us, there is nothing wrong with our families, and we aren’t going anywhere. Just like COLAGE did in 2015 when marriage equality made its way to the Supreme Court, we will continue to bring the voices of people with LGBTQ+ parents to the forefront.
