Today California Governor Brown signed the FAIR Education Act.
The FAIR Education Act – sponsored by our friends the Gay-Straight Alliance Network and Equality California, and drafted with the support of the National Center for Lesbian Rights – will ensure that LGBT people are fairly and accurately included in history and social studies classes.
Make no mistake, this bill is historic, and will do more than we could ever imagine to conquer the isolation faced by LGBT youth and youth with LGBT parents. GSA Network reports, “studies show that learning about LGBT people and our struggle for civil rights reduces bullying by more than 50 percent.”
