1. Our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, family, extended family, and friends are workers who deserve the right to fair pay to support the families who depend on them.
2. Unions and the labor movement are at the frontlines of advocating for LGBTQ equality including supporting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and other initiatives that are of vital importance to people who have LGBTQ parents.
3. For many LGBTQ workers their union contract serves as a safety net preventing them from being fired due to discrimination because in their state it remains legal to fire or deny employment based on sexual orientation, or gender identity and expression.
4. The union wage benefit is greatest for people of color and women. Latino union workers earn almost 51 percent more than their nonunion counterparts. Union women earn almost 34 percent more than nonunion women. For African Americans, the union advantage is 31 percent. The union advantage for white male workers is almost 21 percent. For Asian American workers the union advantage is close to 1 percent. (source: AFLCIO)
5. Our movement for equality is stronger when we work in solidarity and coalition with our allies and advocate for justice in all the areas that impact people with LGBTQ parents!
