“When Rosa Ortiz first met her adoptive parents, she was a troubled 14-year-old living in a group home in Ridgewood.

Jon and Michael Galluccio, who had just adopted Ortiz’s infant sister, Madison, arrived with the baby for a visit. The state had taken away all five children born to Ortiz’s biological mother, and the Galluccios wanted to bring the sisters together. Although Ortiz says initially she was “confused” by the concept of two men as parents, that wasn’t what impressed her most.

“When I saw my parents for the first time, I could see the love they had for their kids. I didn’t see a gay couple. I saw parents,” says Ortiz, now 28 and a mother of three.“ Read the full article>

Vanity Fair Italy featured a story about people raised by LGBTQ parents in there most recent issue! In the article, 5 members of COLAGE’s New York City chapter were asked about their experiences living with LGBTQ parents, and confronting prejudice in the world. Overwhelmingly, the seven people interviewed agree that prejudice from the world, not their families, can be challenging and isolating. However, they all also talked about overcoming that prejudice and the pride they had in their families, and that in the end, our difference is our strength. Take a look at this beautiful article!

COLAGE extends our huge congrats and thank you to Zach and the Ellen Show for once again amplifying the voices of people with LGBTQ parents on a national… global level. Sharing our stories is how we are going to create a world that treats families with LGBTQ parents with the same respect and dignity that all families deserve. “You’re a hero for what you did,” Ellen said, and we agree! We also recognize that there are millions of heroes like Zach sharing your stories at school and in your communities each and everyday!
