Here are some ways you can take action in your family, school and community around many of the issues raised in OUR HOUSE:

•Host a screening of OUR HOUSE with family, friends, at your school, organization or job. The makers of OUR HOUSE have postcards and discussion materials available.

•Contact or create a chapter of COLAGE (Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere) or PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gays) in your town or city. Attend a meeting and/or activity.

•Be knowledgeable about LGBT and LGBT family issues in your city, schools and state -- not to mention nationwide -- via websites, films, magazines, books and newsletters.

•Speak out against jokes and slurs that target people of LGBT families and individuals. Speak out against any comments that demean any individuals or groups.

•Talk with school teachers, counselors or administrators about having a school assembly that invites various speakers to address LGBT issues and encourages sensitivity to them.

•Work with school leaders or administrators in your work-place to establish a plan for responding promptly to hate crimes and incidents.

•Make a presentation at school or work about your LGBT family, LGBT issues or even significant LGBT individuals in your community or in history.

•Make a list of laws, benefits and protections afforded to LGBT families vs. those offered to heterosexual married parents and kids.

•Send a letter to your local, state and/or federal elected officials telling them about your family or about your support of LGBT family issues.

•Find a way to celebrate Gay Pride that includes someone who doesn't usually celebrate -- take them to a parade, have a barbecue, have them march with you, etc.

•If you attend religious services that don't address or acknowledge LGBT issues and families, talk with those in charge and discuss their willingness.

•Create a place in your home where photos, artwork, momentos from the entire family are visible.

•Build a web-page for yourself and your family. Link to other interesting and supportive sites.
