The Sons and Daughters Project
Welcome to Our House, the first national television documentary
made by the daughter of an LGBT parent, about kids of LGBT
parents! As kids of LGBT parents, we know that our stories
and our families are here to stay, yet it's rare to see kids
like us on television. Our House seeks
to change that by creating in-depth portraits of children of
LGBT parents in the United States. Our plan is to focus on
kids in diverse families located in urban, suburban, and
rural areas around the United States. We know that it's
impossible to perfectly represent the full range of our
community, but we'd like to give national television viewers
a better understanding of our families and our lives. We're
looking for kids (age ten to eighteen) of LGBT parents who
are willing to participate in the film. We'd like to speak
with adopted and donor inseminated kids, as well as sons and
daughters whose parents came out after they were born.
Filming will take place in spring, 1999 over several days
with a small crew to profile each family-but the focus will
be on the children, not the parents. Our House is sponsored by The Independent Television Service
(ITVS) and will air on national public television in the year
2000. Help change the face of American families on
television, become part of Our House!
