THERE'S NOT MANY DIFFERENCES
by Brooke Watson
Questions arise too often
Why can't they just understand?
So what if we don't fit your traditional family?
Just offer your accepting hand.
It's all over the media
Television and magazines
Families like mine should not exist
These Republicans aren't that keen.
No wonder I hear "That's gay, that's gay"
In school everywhere I turn.
The result of Georgie has taken affect-
It makes my stomach churn.
I challenge them now to consider my view
And although they'll probably doubt
There's not many differences between your family and mine
Love, too, is what we're about!
Brooke Walston is a teen who lives with her lesbian moms and younger sister
in Saugatuck, MI. She wrote this poem during a Creative Writing workshop
during the recent Michigan Family Week.
