Local and regional events with programming for children and youth with LGBT parents

COLAGErs MarchAt the core of our work is creating opportunities for children, youth and adults with LGBT parents to gather, grow and build community. For many years we have participated in Family Week events sponsored by the Family Pride Coalition offering dynamic youth empowerment programming for COLAGErs ages 9-18 with LGBT parents entirely facilitated by adults who also are children of LGBT parents.

Additionally, we provide offer one-day, weekend or week long youth programming and activist training for COLAGErs at local and regional events. If you are planning a large LGBT Family event and are interested in having COLAGE participate, please contact Meredith Fenton, COLAGE Program Director, to discuss the possibilities.

What youth say about their experiences at COLAGE events:

PizzaIn the five years I've been involved with COLAGE, I have made lifelong friends. The activities promote such a sense of community. -Alicia, VA

After my first time at a COLAGE event, I was a whole new person. I discovered confidence that I never knew I had: confidence to be myself; confidence to make new friends; and most of all, confidence to be proud of my family even while living in a small suburban town. - Jamie, NY

COLAGE completely changed my life. It was the first time I realized that I wasn't alone and that I wasn't a freak. The classes and people I met gave me hope that I could deal with any situation and actually enjoy the fact that my family is different. - Ember, AZ

Tug of LoveCOLAGE is important to me because everyone there is so nice, and they have all helped me sooo much!!! I know it sounds corny, but I never realized how many COLAGErs there are in the world and in my area until I first was introduced to COLAGE. This is the only organization that helps children of LGBT families who feel like they have no one else who knows what they are going through. It also helps so many people all over the world in countless ways. Thank you to everyone at COLAGE. - Jessie, IN

When I first found out that my mom was gay I didn't really like it that much so I moved in with my dad. Then I went to COLAGE and my view on the whole thing changed. I thought it was just me, alone, but now that I have met other kids, it's easier for me. - Tom, RI

At COLAGE we are all young activists by showing our pride in our families and expressing our views. Through COLAGE I became unafraid of the people who may object to what we're doing. We do all that we can to educate others about alternative families, with the hope that we will spread a spirit of tolerance and acceptance. - Morgan, CA
