On Wednesday, August 4 Judge Walker will issue a ruling on the constitutionality of Proposition 8, a California ballot initiative that denied our families marriage equality.
Regardless of the outcome, this historic moment serves as a reminder of how important it is to connect with a community of peers and be strong advocates for ourselves and our families.
Nearly 250 youth with a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer parent are currently attending our 15th annual Provincetown Family Week in Massachusetts.
During the week, we will join many families in witnessing and celebrating their marriages. On Sunday the parents of longtime COLAGE leader Liz Wall, David Wall and Robert Houck, celebrated their 31st anniversary with a legally recognized marriage. Liz shared, “We’ve been a family for decades. It’s amazing to see my family gain the rights and recognition all families deserve. Having the COLAGE community here to celebrate with us was the icing on the cake.”

Today in our “Super Hero Families” workshop, one of our 3rd graders said, “When people make fun of me for having gay parents, I walk away and remind myself that I am proud of my family and who we are.”
When the ruling is announced let’s be inspired by the experiences our families share, and show the world our pride.
Join a rally near you in response to the court decision. Many are listed at www.equalityevents.ning.com. Here at Provincetown Family Week and across the nation families will stand together and continue to advocate for equality and justice.
